The Bags of Care donation drive sponsored by Grafton High School FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) is an overwhelming success! Over 1,000 items were collected from new or lightly used bookbags, duffle bags, suitcases, hygiene products, and under garments. FBLA shares their sincere appreciation to GHS families, homerooms, and administration, Taylor County Middle School, and West Taylor Elementary for their participation. Local churches and community organizations, such as the Grafton Rotary, also donated funds and products. Thank you to Braydon McCullough, GHS FBLA President and Project Organizer, Jennifer Eskridge, GHS Communities In School Site Coordinator (CIS), and Mendy Shaffer, GHS Family Resource Facilitator. Thank you all for your incredible generosity to provide for children in the foster care system.

Mrs. Bartlett’s library students read to elementary students last week for Read Across America Week. It was an awesome chance for them to practice their public speaking skills: volume, pace, poise, inflection, enunciation, pronunciation, and visual aids. They also sent treats and activities to the students to reinforce the reading experience. They haven't been able to participate for 3 years now, so it was great to get back into the celebration.

Mrs. Watkins physical science class created marble roller coasters as a culminating project following a unit on Newton’s Law, inertia and momentum. The coaster had to be free standing and the marble had to run a minimum of 8 seconds. The winning coaster ran for over 24 seconds. The “gates” added by this team were different than the obstacles added by other teams and proved to be quit effective.

I wanted to take a minute to give a shout out to our student body, faculty and staff. I’m placing extra attention to our custodians on this one. Below are excerpts from two emails I have received in the past month that exemplify what a wonderful group of individuals I get to work with every day. Ms Shumaker,  I do not have a student at your school. However, I have been to your gym a few times and marvel at your building's cleanliness and upkeep….I am emailing to ask for your input on how you maintain such a nice environment. Dear Mrs. Shumaker, —— was here to do —— testing earlier this week. She asked me to pass along a message to our principal. She said this was the best place she had done testing, of all the places she has been. She said our students and staff were the most polite and helpful she had worked with. I told her I would pass the message along. #BearcatPride
