It was a great day to be a Bearcat at Marshall University. Twenty-eight students traveled to Huntington to compete in the annual SCORES competition. They collectively brought home 26 metals. GHS’s Spanish program hosted a concert featuring Puerto Rican singer Edgar Rene. Schools from across the state came to see him sing. During the show, a group of students performed their dance for the song “Como la Flor.” Brylen Purkey and Jerra Halbritter sang a song along with Edgar on stage. After the concert, students ate tacos and sopapilla in the Mary Battle room and then played in a soccer tournament.
Last week, the Spanish 3 and 4 Honors classes created and presented their Soy un Artista projects. The project required research on a famous artist from the Spanish-speaking world and then dressing up and acting as said artist. Pictured are the students in their outfits next to the artists they portrayed. Some of the artists include Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, and more.

Autumn Ware was elected by her classmates (fellow “employees”) as Riverside Designs March 2022 Employee of the Month.
Autumn will graduate as a Triple Completer in 2023 completing in Information Management this year, 2022, and two additional concentrations her senior year, Coding, App, and Game Design and Management and Administrative Support.
Autumn has obtained certifications in Visual Design using Adobe Photoshop CC2018 and Graphic Design & Illustration using Adobe Illustrator 2021. Through the Business Computer Applications course, Autumn certified in Microsoft Word, Word Expert, and Excel. Autumn’s December 2021 Excel score qualified her among the top-scoring candidates in West Virginia to advance to the 2022 Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship to be held in Dallas, Texas in June.
Autumn is a member of the GHS National Technical Honor Society. Her interests beyond the classroom include dance. She has danced for 13 years and currently studies tap with Studio C in Grafton.

GHS students entered posters into the WV Council of Teachers of Mathematics (WVCTM) poster contest. The winning poster will be next year’s logo and theme. For the second conference in a row, a GHS student won the contest. Congratulations to Hannah Beasley.
In addition, Chloe Saltis and Carrington Mayle were both in the top 6 high school posters.

Mr. Uhl's carpentry students designed and built a rabbit hutch. It was commissioned by a member of the Taylor County Community.
Students in Ms. Hunt's Algebra 2 classed discovered pi on Pi Day. A big shout out to Mr. Uhl and his classes for making circles for the activity.
