A Message from Dr. John E. Stallings, Jr.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I write this message to alert you of a concern that has been brought to my attention and, most importantly, about which I appeal for your help. In doing so, I want to first say “Thank You” for your assistance and cooperation with all the previous issues and concerns that we navigated throughout the previous school year as it was very much appreciated. As I’ve mentioned a number of times in the past, it is my belief that we can do most things best when doing them together.
As we anticipate a large crowd at the forthcoming competition between Taylor County Middle (TCMS) and Washington & Irving (WI) Middle Schools’ football teams, scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, 2024, your help in supervising and encouraging all other attending students to focus on the game and demonstrate support of our players, coaches, cheerleaders, and Band members would be very much appreciated. This includes having them stay away from the scoreboard hillside areas.
I’m sure there will be some who say that these students are just being kids and that they should be allowed to have fun. To a point, I would agree as, indeed, I, too, want those in attendance of all our school-sponsored events to enjoy themselves. However, I am also hopeful that you will agree that the safety of everyone is essential, and potential accidents and damages (even when unintended) can be avoided with a little redirection by all of us.
With all of this in mind, I am appealing for your assistance in reminding our students of the importance of showing our teams (players, cheerleaders, and yes, band members as they all work hard to be prepared for the events) support by focusing on their contributions throughout the entire evening, both during the forthcoming Wednesday game as well as any/all others. This is also important when either a winning or losing score is on the scoreboard during any type of competition.
I look forward to a time when the stands are filled with both we adults and our students who are collectively showing the “Go Team!” spirit by focusing on the game and therefore sending a strong message to guests that Taylor County knows the right way to respect and support our programs, our facilities, and our guests. I hope you’ll join me in this important effort.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Dr. John E. Stallings, Jr.
