Parents/Guardians, Student Drivers, and Faculty/Staff,

I’m sharing this letter as an appeal for your assistance relating to the safety of our children and any other visitors to our campuses.

Recently, we have noticed an increase in traffic, both prior to school during Student Drop-off procedures and after school when Parent Pick-up procedures are occurring, during which there have been a some observed/reported “near misses” involving automobiles and pedestrians.  In addition, our evening activities have also experienced a few of the same sort of “near misses” as attendees of sports events and creative arts performances have been returning to their vehicles.

My appeal is for all of us to remember that mindfulness of the flashing lights as we approach our schools is only a small part of the safety procedures needing to be honored, as these “near misses” have taken place much closer to the buildings (cross walks, and designated drop-off/pick-up locations, etc.).

With this in mind, please help us ensure that our individual and collective practices when it comes to approaching our schools are such that we avoid any injury to anyone, as speed, alertness to foot traffic, and patience during the business of getting our children to and from school activities, while also needing to get to work are all essential considerations that can help us maintain the safety of all involved.

Thank you for your assistance with this important issue.

Dr. John E. Stallings, Jr.

Superintendent
