Taylor County Schools students are asked to wear red, white, and blue tomorrow (Feb. 21) to display their support to Liberty High School faculty, staff, and students in this difficult time. The staff and students of Liberty High School are in our thoughts for comfort and support in this time of need.

The Taylor County Board of Education is currently developing options for the 2024-25 school calendar. Options being considered include a week long spring break OR two long weekend breaks during the spring months. Also under consideration is a possible shift in Grafton High School graduation dates due to timing of other breaks and requirements set forth by the WVDE.
A public hearing is scheduled for February 27, 2024, at 5:30 at the Taylor County Board of Education to discuss the school calendar options as well as the Non-Traditional Day Plan (NTID).
If you have concerns or questions, please plan to attend or email Jenny McCarthy-jmccarthy@k12.wv.us for calendar concerns/questions
OR Helen Roberts-hjroberts@k12.wv.us for NTID plan concerns/questions.

Anna Jarvis Elementary School students had the opportunity to hear native West Virginian, Ashley Belote, read the book she illustrated, "Valenslime.”
During the visit, Mrs. Belote also demonstrated how to draw her character Igor and she made sparkly slime!
If you missed out on ordering, you can still order at: https://www.ashleybelote.com and have it shipped to your home.

UPDATED SCHOOL CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT: Tomorrow, Friday, Feb 16th, 2024 will now be a County Wide School Closure Day. Students and Staff will not report. Students are not required to complete any instruction or assignments. Taylor County Schools will not be utilizing a NTI Day as previously announced. This change is due to guidelines set forth by the WV Department of Education.

Friday, February 16, 2024 will be Non-Traditional Instruction Day for all Taylor County Schools as a result of result of unforeseen staff shortages throughout the school district. This is NTI Day #1 for students. Students will learn from home and staff will be available for support from 10:00am-3:00pm.

When students are able to read fluently, then there is not the need to devote as much energy on decoding the words. As a result, more focus can be placed on comprehending or understanding the material read.
